Not only can we offer bespoke themed menus tailored to your special day, but the rooms within the Museum of London Docklands offer a blank canvas allowing the venue to be designed for your wedding. As an enhancement to the day, guests are welcome to view one of the Museum Galleries during a drinks reception or before the wedding breakfast.
Case study: Laura and Phillip
As local residents, newlyweds Laura and Phillip both have fond memories of the area, which made it a natural option for their wedding location. Visiting the Museum of London Docklands, the couple immediately loved the character and architecture of the building, and the possibilities presented by the onsite bar and restaurant Rum & Sugar, as well as period style photographs in the 1840s themed Sailortown gallery, proved to be the icing on the cake!
Upon arrival from the ceremony on vintage red double-decker red London buses, Laura, Phillip and all the guests were met by a prosecco reception and delicious canapés of smoked salmon, lemon aioli on classic blinis and Welsh rarebit with truckle cheddar and Lea & Perrins sauce.
Guests then moved into the Muscovado Hall for the wedding banquet and speeches, where a scrumptious three-course meal awaited. Caterer Ampersand had prepared a bespoke bitter chocolate torte with Madagascan vanilla ice cream especially for the bride, as, during the menu tasting, she had told them that this was a family favourite. Other dishes included roast sirloin of Angus beef, Yorkshire pudding, and red wine jus and poached asparagus with soft-boiled quails’ eggs and Hollandaise sauce.
The couple paid homage to the venue’s history with a little bit of rum theming – tables were named after different types of rums, with favours to match! The night ended in Rum & Sugar where guests danced the night away, enjoyed the music of their friend’s band and snacked on a late evening buffet.
Laura and Phillip felt that “for what was an incredible venue, we got very good value for money – we used areas that weren’t necessarily the normal place to hold events, which made the price less than the usual, but the places we chose were just perfect.”
“Thank you all at Museum of London Docklands and Rum & Sugar for giving us a wedding day that we both look back on and can’t help but smile, as it was the best day of our lives.”
