We recently conducted a survey of couples and wedding suppliers to find out how savvy brides and grooms were trying to save money on their upcoming nuptials in 2013. Whilst some of the results were expected there were a few curve balls!
The top 10 ways to save according to our survey were:
1. Making your own invitations
2. Getting married off-peak
3. Exchanging a skill for a discount
4. Using an iPod for music at your reception instead of a DJ
5. Serving your cake as the desert course
6. Borrowing a nice car from a relative instead of hiring one
7. Choosing ‘rustic’ food such as chips, bacon sarnies and BBQ chicken for the buffet
8. Asking relatives to contribute a skill instead of a gift
9. Buying dresses on the internet
10. Reusing floral displays from the ceremony at your reception venue
Most couples said that they felt they could do the most wedding DIY in the areas of decor, stationary and cakes whilst they felt that services such as photography and catering should not be compromised on.
The most interesting money saving ploy seemed to be in couples trading their skills for a discount. Our wedding suppliers reported an increase in the amount of couples asking for this in 2012/13 so far when compared to previous years.
