When it comes to your wedding day make up, contrary to the popular myth that you have to stick to an au naturel, but this is SO not the case. One of my favourite looks on brides in the summer, is a beautiful glowing complexion, brows that frame the face perfectly, a natural eye and a gorgeous coral lip!
The key to wearing a bold lip, especially on a day like your wedding day, is maintenance, be sure to have prepped your lips with exfoliation and using a good lip balm in the run up to your wedding day – lush have some wonderful options. On the day itself, don’t use lip balm underneath your lipstick, this will ruin the finish. Instead, use a lip primer, line your lips and use a lip brush to apply the lipstick.
Before selecting your perfect shade, you need to determine whether your skin colour is warm, cool or neutral. This isn’t dependent on the fairness or darkness of your skin but rather its undertones. If you have warm undertones, your skin will lean have yellow or golden tones coming through. If you have cool undertones, your skin will have pink or blue undertones. Neutral toned people will have a mixture of these colours coming through.
To determine which category you fit into there are a few things you can look at. One is to look at what colour your veins are – if they are blue you are cool toned, if they are green, you are warm. Another thing you can do, is to see if your face looks better against gold or silver jewellery, if silver looks better on you then you’re most likely cool toned, if gold works better you’re probably warm. Lastly, try on a crisp white shirt and a cream, if the white looks better, you’re likely cool, if it’s cream, likely warm.
Done? Okay, here are a few of our favourite coral lipsticks:
This cult classic is such a vibrant shot of colour, definitely for the brave of heart and not the shy and retiring bride. It looks so beautiful on though – don’t be scared on the colour in the tube!
NARS Niagara Lipstick
This strikes such a beautiful balance between sheen and frost, it’s well pigmented so you’ll have full coverage. It’s a little more subdued than Vegas Volt.
Tom Ford Paradiso
Tom Ford is basically the king of lipsticks, at £30-plus it is a splurge but my, are they amazing! This has the most perfect finish, with a soft and luminous sheen. It’s hydrating, wears very well and goes on like a dream!
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick La Favourite
This is a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful matte but with a gorgeous silky sheen. It is very light on the lips but with a good coverage.
Illamasqua Brink Lipstick
This is a gorgeous peach-coral with a semi-matte finish – it is creamy enough that it applies wonderfully and doesn’t dry out lips, but it doesn’t look too glossy on the lips.
