Honeymoons are amazing - after the months of planning and one of the most beautiful days of your life, surrounded by friends and family, you get to spend time in a beautiful location with your newlywed spouse. If you don't want toventure too far, then we have seven gorgeous honeymoon-perfect locations for you to pick from.
One of my favourite places on earth is the beautiful capital of Catalonia and it would make an amazing honeymoon destination. The city boasts vibrancy, beautiful architecture, lovely cuisine, history and romantic winding alleyways that take you to the most charming squares (Placa de Santa Maria and Placa de Sant Agusti Vell are particularly beautiful). As well as Barcelonetta Beach, there are plenty of gorgeous seaside towns to explore, Stiges is so worth a visit and is just a short train ride away.
With a flight time of just under four hours from London to this Moroccan beachside location, you can go for an exotic honeymoon on short haul flight times. Once there you can ride horseback on the beach, learn to surf or relax in a hammam. With vast sandy beaches to laze away on, rooftop cafes and restaurants and charming riad hotels Essaouira makes a lovely honeymoon destination.
Here you have incredible monuments to explore, beautiful beaches to pass the days on, amazing cuisine and slowness to life that is infectious and just perfect for a honeymoon – all on a less than three hour flight from London. Lisbon is one of those cities, like many in Europe, which retains all the charm of the old world, with its gorgeous architecture and antiquated yellow trams but manages to fuse it beautifully with modernity.
Be sure to explore UNESCO world heritage sites like the Torre de Belem, wonder through the city’s cobblestoned streets and explore the Portuguese coast – Setubal in particular is a beautiful sea side town just an hour by train from Lisbon.
With its sapphire seas, enchanting coves and pine-sheltered beaches and the contrasting jutting cliffs, the Balearic island of Mallorca is one of the most perfect honeymoon beach destinations in Europe.
When it comes to beaches you are spoilt for choice – Cala Tuent is flanked by hills and pine pine trees making it feel like a secret you have just tumbled upon, the white sands and turquoise waters of Cala Varques are swoon worthy and Cala Formentor is one of the most beautiful spots on the island with its stunning backdrop of mountains.
With cobbled streets, opulent Moorish architecture and rich history, this Andalusian city is steeped in culture and also boasts delicious cuisine and some charming hotels (Hacienda de San Rafael is just absolutely beautiful and is just outside of Seville). You can explore the city’s old town, take a beautiful river cruise along the Guadalquivir, enjoy some delicious tapas and visit the city’s Cathedral/former church.
The setting of the most romantic tale in history, Romeo and Juliet, is possibly the most perfect of all honeymoon destinations. If this is your chosen honeymoon destination you will be welcomed with gelato and pizza – both of which are amongst the most delicious you will find on earth. You can visit Juliet’s famous balcony, wander the city’s cobbled streets and marvel at its charming churches.
From Verona you can venture to the beautiful Lake Garda, with its sapphire waters, mountainous backdrop and charming old buildings,
I don’t think you can have an article on honeymoons without including the ‘City of Love’. With its iconic monuments such as the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame and the Louvre, beautiful food and pretty cafes and bistros, you will have no shortage of city to explore. For the slightly cheesy there’s also the love-lock bridge, where couples can lock padlocks together and flick the key into the River Seine. Oh and then there’s the French accent. All around very romantic.
