Considering"hidden" costs, keeping capacity in mind and ensuring you retain control over exactly how you want your day to go are the top tips from wedding industry experts for couples looking for a wedding venue.
Here's what the wedding industry had to say on last week's #weddinghour - a fantastic twitter networking hour on 9-10pm every Wednesday.
Ensure you hire somewhere that can hold everyone you would like to invite.
This is a great tip, you and your partner will have loved ones you will absolutely want there with you on your special day and will probably not want to compromise on this, even if everything else about the venue is perfect. Maximum capacity should be one of the things you discuss with any potential venue.
Choose a venue that puts you in control and allows you to have the wedding you want. Another awesome tip - it's your day and it should go how you want to! Query whether your venue of choice has flexibility regarding your choices with food and drink, layout, entertainment and decor.
Check hidden costs, especially corkage. Add up all the costs associated with your venue of choice before making a decision.
Take into consideration the aesthetic appeal of the venue. An intricate, grand room may cost more to hire but ultimately you may need to spend less on decor.
Another couple of things I'd add to these tips would be to book as early as possible to ensure you get the best price possible and also your preferred date. Also find out if the venue offers you a wedding coordinator who will be there for you every step of the way and on hand on your big day.
